Fang Gu Teapot Style
Fang Gu literally mean imitation (fang) of the ancient (gu) style. It is said that Shao Daheng, a master teapot maker in the Qing Dynasty, created this teapot shape inspired by the ancient Chinese percussion instrument ‘drum’ (also pronounced ‘gu’ in Chinese), with a flat body, a bulging belly and a high neck, he named this ‘fang gu hu’ (fang gu teapot): a teapot that imitates the shape of a drum. As people imitated the work of the ancient master, the style of this teapot is called ‘fang gu’, which has two meanings at the same time: imitation of the drum and imitation of the ancient style.
