Bian Chen shape is extremely difficult to make and requires years of experience. As the saying goes: ‘The flatter the shape, the greater the difficulty in making it.’ Bian Chen teapots are a great test of the teapot maker’s basic skills and control of the clay, so they are rarely seen on the market.
The flat shape of the Bian Chen teapot is derived from the drinking vessels of China’s “Spring and Autumn” period and the “Warring States” period. This classic Bian Chen teapot has a unique artistic charm: the large opening and wide belly allow the tea leaves to unfold beautifully and allow for an optimal infusion.
This Bian Chen teapot is made by Xu Yaowen, who’s is a certified Yixing artist and a member of the National Arts & Crafts Association in China. Her teapot collection is known for its smooth lines and elegant appearance and loved by Yixing art collectors.
